Support

Cairn

Email studio@mutterware.com and I'll get back to you. Cairn is made by one person, so replies aren't instant — but they're from a human, not a ticket system.

The quickest way is Settings → Email support in the app, which adds Cairn's version for you. It helps if you add your iPhone model and iOS version. Please don't send your balance or a screenshot of your bank — I don't need either to help.

Common questions

I subscribed but Cairn is still asking me to
Tap Restore on the subscription screen, or Settings → Restore purchases. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so this works on any iPhone you own — including after reinstalling.
If it still doesn't open, email me with roughly when you subscribed and a screenshot of the Apple receipt (emailed to you by Apple, or in reportaproblem.apple.com). Apple doesn't tell me who subscribed, so the receipt is what lets me find it.
How do I cancel?
In Cairn, Settings → Manage subscription opens Apple's own page. You can also go to the iOS Settings app → your name → Subscriptions → Cairn. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date and you won't be charged again; Cairn stays open until the end of the period you've paid for.
During the free week, cancelling before it ends means you are never charged. Settings in Cairn tells you the day the trial becomes a charge.
What happens to my plan if I stop subscribing?
Nothing. It waits on your phone exactly as it was, and opens where you left it if you subscribe again. Cairn never deletes your plan because a subscription ended.
I'm moving to a new phone
If you restore the new phone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one, Cairn comes with it.
Otherwise, on the old phone open Settings → Save a backup and send the file somewhere you can reach it — iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or email to yourself. On the new phone, install Cairn, tap Restore from a backup on the welcome screen, and pick the file. Your pots, history and photos all come across. Then tap Restore on the subscription screen to bring your subscription with you.
The backup file isn't encrypted, so keep it somewhere private and delete it once you're done.
I reinstalled and my plan is gone
Cairn keeps everything on your phone and nothing on a server, which is what lets it avoid collecting your data — but it also means deleting the app deletes your plan. If you saved a backup file, restore it from the welcome screen. If not, there's nothing for me to restore from.
My balance on a screenshot was read wrong
Cairn picks the figure that looks most like a balance, and it can't always tell which account is the one you track. Tap the right figure under Not that one?, or type the number into the sentence yourself. The screenshot is deleted as soon as it's read.
A date jumped after a check-in
Dates move when what's in the account moves. A check-in that comes in lower than the plan, or money taken out, lands pots later; a check-in on top of the plan lands them sooner. The end of every check-in says which pots moved and by how much, and a pot's own screen ("How it's going") shows what moved it.
Reminders aren't arriving
Check they're on in Cairn's Settings, and in the iOS Settings app under Notifications → Cairn. Reminders are scheduled on your phone for about a month ahead, and refreshed each time you open the app.
The widget is out of date
The lock-screen widget shows what Cairn last told it. Open the app — any check-in or change updates it. It never shows an amount, only a pot and the month it lands in.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Start over with a new plan erases your plan. Deleting the app removes everything it kept. If you saved backup files, delete those too.
To also have the subscription record held by our payment provider deleted, email me and I'll pass the request on.
I want a refund
Refunds are handled entirely by Apple — I can't process them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you're in Australia, this doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Is Cairn financial advice?
No. Cairn works out dates from the numbers you give it, and it's a guide from your own numbers, not advice. The tips it shows say where they come from.
Does Cairn see my bank account?
No. It doesn't connect to your bank. The balance is a number you type, or read off a screenshot on your phone. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
Something's broken and it isn't listed here
Please tell me — studio@mutterware.com. If the app showed you an error screen, a screenshot of it is the single most useful thing you can send.
