Grumble
Email studio@mutterware.com and I'll get back to you. Grumble is made by one person, so replies aren't instant — but they're from a human, not a ticket system.
It helps enormously if you include your iPhone model and iOS version. For anything about a purchase, add your Support ID from Settings → About in the app.
Common questions
- My steps aren't showing up
- Almost always a Health permission. Open the iOS Settings app → Privacy & Security → Health → Grumble, and check that Steps and Walking + Running Distance are both switched on. If you declined the permission when you first opened Grumble, this is where to turn it back on.
- Also worth knowing: iPhone step data comes from the phone itself, so steps taken while your phone was on a desk won't be counted by anything, Grumble included.
- I bought Grumble Pro but it's not unlocked
- Open Grumble's Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID, so this works on any device you own — including after reinstalling.
- If it still doesn't unlock, email me and I'll sort it out. Apple doesn't tell me who bought the app, so the things that actually help me find your purchase are:
- your Support ID — in Grumble under Settings → About, long-press to copy it
- a screenshot of the Apple receipt (emailed to you by Apple, or in reportaproblem.apple.com)
- roughly when you bought it, and your iPhone model and iOS version
- I reinstalled and my monster is gone
- Unfortunately that's permanent. Grumble stores everything on your device and nothing on a server, which is what lets it avoid collecting your data — but it also means deleting the app deletes your history, and there's no backup for me to restore from.
- Your purchase survives, though. Tap Restore Purchases to get Pro back.
- How do I delete my data?
- Delete the app. Everything Grumble knows about you lives in its own storage on your phone, so removing the app removes all of it — permanently and completely.
- To also have the purchase record held by our payment provider deleted, email me with your Support ID (Grumble → Settings → About) and I'll pass the request on. Grab it before you delete the app — it goes with everything else.
- I want a refund
- Refunds are handled entirely by Apple — I can't process them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If you're in Australia, this doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. See the Terms.
- Is Grumble a subscription?
- No. Grumble Pro is a one-time purchase. It doesn't renew and won't charge you again.
- Version 1 is sold as early access, so how Grumble is priced for new users may change later. That doesn't reach back into a purchase you've already made — see the Terms.
- Does Grumble share my health data?
- No. It reads step count (including grouped by hour, to work out when you usually walk) and walking & running distance from Apple Health, uses them on your device, and never transmits them anywhere. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
- Notifications aren't arriving
- Check they're enabled in Grumble's Settings, and in the iOS Settings app under Notifications → Grumble. Grumble schedules reminders locally on your phone, so they'll work without a network connection.
- Something's broken and it isn't listed here
- Please tell me — studio@mutterware.com. If the app showed you an error screen, a screenshot of it is the single most useful thing you can send.
